Mr Nicholas Barnett, Insync Surveys' Chairman, said: "Having an effective board chair is a fundamental prerequisite for having an effective board. An ineffective board chair not only holds back a board, but can also hinder the CEO and the entire organisation."

WA Business News and Insync Surveys partner for the WA Best Employer Awards 2009

Perth, 20 November 2008 WA Business News and Insync Surveys have partnered to launch the WA Best Employer Awards 2009. The market downturn may take the heat off employers in the short term, but the experience in WA over the past few years has shown that workers have more choices about who they work for. Acknowledging this rise in value of an organisation’s brand with its potential workforce, WA Business News and Insync Surveys have launched this new program, closing with a gala luncheon in June 2009. Organisations entering the WA Best Employer Awards participate by engaging in an employee feedback survey, developed by Insync Surveys’ Perth team for the WA business market with a strong emphasis on attraction and retention of valuable employees. Offering staff complete anonymity, the survey will be conducted through Insync Surveys using a scientific and rigorous approach. At the conclusion of the awards a top 20 list will be made public and all participating organisations will receive a detailed report about their business.

Corporate culture, not illegal, but very damaging

29 November 2006 AWB had a “closed culture that did not accord with the statements in AWB's code of conduct,” said Mr T Cole.

The Cole report, released yesterday states: “The conduct of AWB and its officers was due to a failure in corporate culture.”

“Legislation cannot destroy such a culture or create a satisfactory one. That is the task of boards and the management of companies. The starting point is an ethical base,” the report says.

Organisational surveys and research, such as those provided by Insync Surveys, can serve as early warning systems for a lack of alignment between values and the day-to-day reality in an organisation.

From the NAB forex crisis to the AWB scandal, lack of measurement, poor measurement and lack of follow up can all be immensely costly to careers, reputations and shareholder returns.

The Cole report says AWB failed to follow the recommendations of consultants in 2000, who encouraged them to survey their ethical culture and foster a transparent environment where employees are encouraged to report incidents, risks and improper conduct.

Mr Cole noted this recommendation as proof that AWB's culture had required attention for many years.

James Garriock, Insync Surveys’ Chief Operating Officer, said: “Employee surveys can be used to reveal underlying issues that can potentially explode into major ethical problems. Organisastions that undertake employee surveys are taking the proactive steps to detect and address unhealthy cultures.”
