Making a difference: How Insync created the Bushfire & Emergency Self Assessment Tool

Following 2009’s catastrophic bushfires and in preparation for the next bushfire season, Insync assisted the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to develop a bushfire preparedness and emergency management self-assessment tool.

This tool was developed from scratch in eight business days and rolled out the following week to around 5,000 facilities (public, independent and Catholic schools and children’s services).

Following this important and well regarded project, the Victorian Department of Human Services requested our assistance to develop and roll out an appropriately tailored summer preparedness and emergency management tool for their Department. This tool has now been used by around 300 residential aged care and hospital facilities in Victoria and is being extended to numerous community health services.

Our emergency self-assessment tools have raised awareness and assisted respondents, organisation CEOs and the Departments to:

  • better understand the bushfire, smoke and heat risk being faced at each facility for summer
  • gain valuable insights into each facility’s emergency management preparedness
  • inform appropriate decisions and actions at the facility, organisation, region and state level
